Queer Residence

Self-determined life for queer seniors

MÜNCHENSTIFT's newest supported residence is currently being built at Herzog-Ernst-Platz in the Sendling district. Older lesbian women, gay men, bisexuals, trans* and intersex persons will be able to live there openly and without discrimination. With the Queer Residence Herzog*in, Munich's first housing project for LGBTIQ* seniors is being built, with an attached rosaAlter counselling centre.

A total of 28 one- and two-room apartments are being built. Four of them will be wheelchair accessible. All apartments have soundproofed loggias facing Radlkoferstraße. A special highlight will be the large roof terrace in the inner courtyard. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in July 2019, and the first residents are scheduled to move in between April 2023 and September 2024.

Cooperation with the LGBTIQ* community

For the realisation of the project and after years of preparations and conceptual discussions with the LGBTIQ* community, Münchner Aids-Hilfe e. V. teamed up with MÜNCHENSTIFT. The project is intended to take into account the great importance of LGBTIQ* people in Munich growing old in a way that meets their needs. The Queer Residence Herzog*in offers space to live - also for residents in need of care and during the dying process.

MÜNCHENSTIFT will provide care and nursing services for the Queer Residence Herzog*in as well as take over the administration of rental matters. Münchner Aids-Hilfe will provide its rosaAlter counselling service, which, in addition to psychosocial counselling, will also provide support for the residents.
